| How does slice work? |

|
|
Slice is different from many calendars because no one manually inputs events. Instead, a Java application, written by the staff of the Department of Technology & Systems Support in the Division of Student Affairs collects the RSS feeds of the events calendars of all the student organization sites every 30 minutes and inserts that information into the calendar. Any changes to an event are captured at that time as well and if an event has been cancelled by the originating organization it is automatically removed from the slice calendar. Using RSS allows us to keep the slice site up-to-date around the clock without having to dedicate time or a person to the task. Aren't computers cool? |
