Modifying Existing Templates Print E-mail

The easiest way to modify the images in an existing template is to download the template installer, modify the files and then repackage it and install it as a new template in your site. Unpack the installer using a standard zip utilty. You will find some things inside:

index.php - the default HTML file for the template. Look here for names of images, etc.

images/ - a directory that contains all the images associated with the template

css/ - a directory with the style sheet for the site

templateDetails.xml - an installtion file that Mambo uses to install the template

Make any modifications you wish and then rename the top-level directory to something else (you can't upload a template with the same directory name of one that already exists). You should also modify the templateDetail.xml to reflect any new images, changed names, etc. It would also be a good idea to change the name of the template here as well.

Example:

<name>My Cool new Template</name>
<creationDate>12.17.2005</creationDate>
<author>Me</author>
<copyright>(c) 2005 </copyright>
<authorEmail>My email address</authorEmail>
<authorUrl>My web site URL</authorUrl>
<version>1.0</version>
<description>This excellent design is by me</description>

Zip your new creation up with a zip utilty (remember to preserve the directory structure), then upload it through the template installer in the back-end of your Mambo site.
